Prairiefire's final phase will include an ice rink

Prairiefire is getting an outdoor ice rink, project developer Merrill Cos. LLC announced Tuesday.

KCIce, a local company that operates ice rinks in Lee's Summit, Burlington Creek and Camdenton, Mo., will manage and operate the rink. The developer expects the rink to open in late 2020 or early 2021.

The rink will be along the northern border of 135th Street, between Nall and Lamar streets. It will measure 100 feet by 120 feet and will have winter sports such as hockey, curling and ice skating during the winter months along with open skating available for the public. KCIce also plans to convert the rink in the summer for additional uses.
