B&B Theatres expands into Nebraska

B&B Theatres is preparing for a theatrical introduction of its own — in Omaha.

The Liberty-based theater operator said last week that it will open its first theater in Omaha, and the state of Nebraska, in the coming weeks, Boxoffice Pro reported. The company is taking over space from the former AMC Oakview Plaza 24, at 3555 S. 140th Plaza. Leawood-based AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AMC) closed the outlet in November.

The Covid-19 pandemic hit theater operators hard, forcing them to close theaters for months, while continued audience restrictions and Hollywood’s reluctance to begin distributing big-name movies again extended the hardship. However, B&B also kept an eye out for opportunity. Last month, the company told the Kansas City Business Journal that it had added 10 theaters and 120 screens in the previous 18 months. That put its total at 56 theaters and 513 screens.
